CBH contracts with nearly 200 Medicaid-enrolled and licensed service providers to deliver effective and medically necessary behavioral health services to our members in a culturally competent manner.

CBH authorizes payment for a vast continuum of behavioral health services, including outpatient mental health, substance use disorder (SUD), inpatient psychiatric hospital, residential, and telehealth treatments. These services are conducted in locations that members can easily access, such as the home, school, or other community settings. CBH works diligently with community partners and providers to maximize access to services while adhering to the Commonwealth’s Behavioral HealthChoices Program Standards and Requirements (PSR).

Crisis Response Centers

In cases of emergency related to mental health or substance use-related crisis, Crisis Response Centers (CRCs) operate 24/7 and offer emergency evaluations to help determine the most appropriate level of care and services. CRCs are available to serve Philadelphia residents requiring emergency behavioral health services, providing needed care in a safe setting.

Medical Necessity Criteria

Medical necessity criteria (MNC) are a group of medical criteria used to determine if your situation meets the need for a type of service. CBH uses medical necessity criteria when making a decision about services that require prior authorization.

 
Clinical Practice Guidelines

Clinical practice guidelines are evidence-based recommendations that help care teams make consistent, high-quality decisions about prevention, diagnosis, and treatment for specific health conditions, while supporting safe, person-centered care.

 
 
 
Language Assistance Resources

Under Title VI of the Civil Rights Act and as outlined in the CBH Provider Agreement, providers who receive federal funds are responsible for ensuring the availability of language and communications services to limited English proficiency individuals and should have an internal language access plan to do so. Providers should utilize CBH language assistance resources when no other services are available. Learn more about CBH language assistance resources. 

Evidence-based Practice and Innovation Center (EPIC)

EPIC was established in 2013 to advance system-wide strategies that support the implementation, sustainability, and accessibility of behavioral health evidence-based practices in Philadelphia.
