Trauma Work and Self-Care

Trainees learn about compassion satisfaction, compassion fatigue, secondary trauma, vicarious trauma, and burnout. Participants are exposed to various self-care strategies including body awareness, mental imagery, self-understanding, self-talk, creative play, supervision and peer support, arrangement of the physical workspace, and boundaries. This training includes reflective exercises, guided activities, and didactic material.

By the end of this training, participants will be able to:

  • Identify four ways that their work can negatively impact them.
  • Describe eight self-care strategies.
  • Identify at least four specific self-care strategies for consistent implementation.
