CBH Awarded Accreditation From The National Committee For Quality Assurance

Published on September 20, 2019

Community Behavioral Health (CBH) has earned the National Committee for Quality Assurance’s (NCQA) Managed Behavioral Health Organization (MBHO) Full Accreditation.

The NCQA MBHO Accreditation, designated by Full or One-Year Accreditation, measures the effectiveness of a health plan’s operational management through a rigorous evaluation of nearly 60 quality standards conducted by a team of physicians and managed care experts. The MBHO Accreditation standards are used to help MBHOs achieve peak performance, reduce patient risks, and create consistent quality enhancement to improve healthcare for its members.

CBH began the application process in 2018 and, after a year-long assessment, earned the highest level accreditation. NCQA’s Full Accreditation lasts for three years and is granted to companies that meet all NCQA standards and achieve excellent ratings for programs and quality improvement.

CBH received top ratings in the following categories: Quality Management and Improvement, Utilization Management, Credentialing and Recredentialing, Member’s Rights and Responsibilities, and Care Coordination. CBH’s NCQA report card also highlighted the nonprofit’s new complex case management program, its credentialing committee, which includes network practitioners, and its latest Member Handbook publication.

CBH also launched cbhphilly.org to meet NCQA accreditation standards. The new website was developed with a member-centric focus to help navigate the Philadelphia behavioral health system. Members can now learn how to access services, identify a nearby service provider using the interactive provider directory, and view a list of covered services and member rights and responsibilities.

“Preparation for the accreditation was a cross-departmental effort that exemplifies our dedication to our members and our focus on quality. CBH’s commitment to helping all Philadelphians access high-quality behavioral health services is at the core of our mission every single day. I am very proud of this accomplishment and our CBH team,” said CBH Chief Executive Officer Joan Erney.

CBH’s Full Accreditation will stand for the next three years as the organization continues to maintain all required standards.

“Community Behavioral Health’s MBHO Accreditation is proof that it’s an organization which works hard to coordinate care, provide access, and good customer support for members,” said Margaret E. O’Kane, NCQA President, “It’s a sign that CBH is focused on improving the behavioral health of its members.”
