About This Course

Prolonged Exposure (PE) therapy is an evidence-based psychotherapy for PTSD that has been found effective with a wide range of trauma populations. In this workshop, Dr. Sandy Capaldi will discuss the diagnosis of PTSD and how to identify clients who may be appropriate candidates for PE, introduce participants to the theory underlying PE, and review the standard PE treatment protocol, with emphasis on the key components of treatment.

Learning Objectives: 

  • Identify significant PTSD symptoms that are primary targets of treatment
  • Identify clients who may be appropriate candidates for Prolonged Exposure Therapy for PTSD (PE)
  • Discuss emotional processing theory as it relates to PE
  • Explain the key components of PE (in vivo exposure, imaginal exposure and processing, psychoeducation)
  • Describe the standard PE treatment protocol
  • Discuss the rationale for treatment with PE
  • Discuss the benefits of in vivo and imaginal exposure
